Once installed, I could then simply start the new uTorrent service from the Services control panel, and hey presto, everything was working! View all posts by Jon. Just make sure you have. NET 4. Strangely there is a copy? Any local computer account that you want the service to run as, for example you can specify your own account name and password.
Error The service did not start due to a logon failure. Unfortunately it puts uTorrent into the background without any foreground GUI which is not ideal for me. Running uTorrent as a service I read read many years ago here on the forum. At the time I did copy how to do it but over time have lost this. I think it didn't need much only uTorrent maybe and something to do with XP to make it happen.
I run uTorrent in portable mode. So all the uTorrent files remain in the utorrent folder not downloads which is a nice clean way to run utorrent. Or a link to a forum post for this. I did do a search but so many and the search not returning results for what I need. Older utorrent if it all this makes a difference for running utorrent as a service 2.
This makes no sense here. Utorrent wasn't made for a service running but individual usage. Think of Napster and how it was killed-that should be all you need to know. I ran utorrent in XP in the past without problems so not sure why you can't just run a utorrent on a XP machine. Utorrent isn't made for running like a Server that everyone connects to isn't what it was made for.
Not a web site or similar service. Just run uTorrent as normal but instead run it as a service. Any software can be run as a service but is the knowing how to do it is what is needed. Running as a service is then more in line with system processing etc for smoother running uTorrent. That it I set enviroment variables to path where nssm is located first. That is neither do I want to use any webUI if this version has one.
Dammednation NSSM why not just let us run the nssm. LOL not that devs will read this, maybe though someone else will and suggest if they know the devs or their email, not that I would. Switching back to running it as a user process works fine. I'd love it if I could get this to run as a service, because as of right now im going to have to have the VM auto-login, have qBittorrent be a startup item, and then run a script to lock the screen.
I'd also have to change group policies for Windows Update to permit it to reboot while a user is logged in. Great tip to share. Already using this for a usenet program. I like to revive the dead, but after two years it would be nice to have an official reply, if having qBittorrent running as a service natively without the help of a service wrapper is a feature on the road-map. By the way I saw also somebody else asking for the same feature: If you don't insist on running specifically as service you may use the built in Windows Task Scheduler.
I will possibly open a bug report, but service install from qBitTorrent would be better for support. Installed as a service with nssm and a specific account to access my media, no access to web ui.
If I execute the normal way, web ui can be accesses. Nothing in the event log. No log file in qbittorrent. No information at all nowhere. I would suggest you first to run qbt under your account, if it is working, then try to run it under another account.
You don;t specify the version of windows or qBitTorrent. The big part to remember is to coy the config files over to whichever user you run this under as the config files live in the roaming profile for eh user that it runs under.
The account is a domain administrator, I don't think this is a security issue. The host of the service is a domain computer. It is running under Windows 10 , latest qBitTorrent 4. As for the config files, if I run QBT manually from a session opened with the same user as the service, the web interface run ok. The problem occur if I run the app while the service is running. After that, the only way it works is by restarting the service, so, it is ok now. It is working now.
I think it is because it should be run once the usual way before being able to use it as a service. Possibly to create config files. I've changed my opinion on nssm. Its command line only nature makes it difficult to work with. I think i"ll go with task scheduler in windows 10 pro from now on. AtariBaby The advantage of a windows service over a scheduled task are the recovery options in case that the application crashes.
A scheduler task doesn't have any recovery option, instead a windows service can be configured to be restarted in case that it crashes. Moreover the concept of a scheduled task isn't the same of a windows service. A scheduled task is thought to end a certain point, not to run indefinitely.
Instead a windows service is thought to run indefinitely until the server is shut down. Instructions to run qBittorent as a service: Thanks for the instructions. It installs and works downloads the torrents , but only until server reboot. After the reboot the torrent list is empty! The windows service starts correctly, the web front-end works almost normally, but all the torrents are gone, the list is empty.
The downloaded data is in place in the download folder, but they are no longer listed in qbittorrent web-interface of the service. Maybe it is not possible to run qbittorrent as windows service?
